running 2.0.1 w installer 4 and cydia

i've just updated iphone to fw 2.0.1 with the help from beautiful work by dev team - pwnage tool 2.0.2; works like a charm.

like we know it's all about bug fixes and it really did a lot for me;
- slow functioning sms, contacts has speed up as it was in 1.1.4.
- syncing conflicts are washed off
- backup process, ummm much faster than 2.0 but not faster than 1.1.4; that explains the apps, i guess
- i love installer and now i have it but in beta; means some bugs are there yet i can tolerate that.
- and finally number display fix i worked on works perfect with this version as well. :P

more-or-less that's pretty much i found out so far, more to come i guess.

looks like it won't be too long before the release of pwnage tool 2.0.2 with installer 4, or at least its what they say. i've been trying installer 4 beta for few days already although constantly crashing and freezing. and after being updated to iphone fw 2.0.1; it is stable, actually much stable and faster than the 2.0 but i miss the 3rd party apps as it is not jailbroken yet.. sometimes i feel like to go on top of my voice calling for installer or cydia.

anyways i would say i'll have activated, unlocked and jailbroken iphone 2.0.1 with in few days, once again so much confident in 'dev team'.

i long till the day 3G is free to fly plus a day 'dhiraagu' unleash the 3G capability on home networks. kudos to 'wataniya' being young in the country and going on beyond the expectations of the customers to release 3G, BUT i was their customer, i repeat i WAS until i got pissed off the stupid billing system and locking me out every next month, oh dear now that's a long a story to spit out, besides that was a long time back. i would just leave it at this point and go sip my latte.

new day it is and i expect new things to happen as always.. oh crap! its freaky friday!!

now that firmware update 2.0.1 is out and i couldn’t get my hands off.. [damn my curiosity!] well i knew it not safe to upgrade when pwnage tool does not support yet. but after reading the to update or not to update? from dev team, i thought i’ll givva try and like a magic it worked!

from my first generation pwned 2.0 to 2.0.1, it took just a normal update from itunes, although i had to put some extra ingredients with bootneuter.. ooh i almost forgot, it doesn’t jailbreak until now [i’ll have to wait for a release of pwnage tool]. so for now bye bye 3rd party apps via cydia and installer 4.0 beta.. damn!! it feels like i’ve just lost half of myself.. for some reasons i know it’s just for a day or two.. hmmm too much confident in dev team eh? well i truly do believe they will fix it in few days..

once then installer will be out of beta at least, or i could always use cydia until the final release of installer 4.0.

and luckily the number fixes which i’d mod for maldives networks works like cheese cake.

off i go.. bloody too tired from diving!! [yaaaaawwwwwwwn]

unlocking fever

honestly, i'm not a fan of Nokia and i never was although a colleague of mine got a N70 locked to Vodafone Netherlands. i knew there will be a way to do it and yes!! i managed to unlock this piece to use with any mobile network. and all it take was a Nokia DKU5 cable to connect the phone to PC. bingo!

at this point i just don't get it why.. why even they lock it to network at the first place. coz always there's a way to get through with it. just like Apple keep bricking iPhone. i just remembered one huge case where Steve Jobs wanted to get rid-off DRM [Digital Rights Management] in online music. yeah! this isn't a similar case but.. come on!! make it available for all the markets at once and make everyone use their product, be proud of it! not? well well, perhaps that's not how the cookie crumbles.. obviously the marketing strategies is a big number to take in to account and perhaps that's how it will be then.

so installer 4 is almost getting there!! i cannot thank enough the iPhone Dev team and the RiP Dev for making everything possible in a very impossible world, at least how Apple thinks!

last night Dev team has posted a very detailed 'updates' on what they have been working on - you guys rock!

How would you change Apple's iPhone 3G? - It has technically been available for three weeks today (and a few hours in the US, but who's counting?), although we're confident quite a few of you are still waiting to actually hold your very own iPhone 3G. Still, those that have braved the excruciatingly long lines and got lucky with AT&T's apparently random Direct Fulfillment approach surely have something to say. We've already confirmed that firmware 2.0 has some serious issues that need dealt with, and aside from elaborating on those, what else would you have done differently with Apple's second handset? Would you have changed the overall design more dramatically? Finally included a user-removable battery? Used a casing material that wouldn't crack ~~for no good reason~~ under pressure? There's still time for your input to be heard before firmware 2.1 arrives (ahem, Apple?) -- sound off below!

i don't know if you have noticed but this domain, paintedreamz[dot]com was down for two weeks, i mean bloody two weeks. all the credit to Yahoo, don't ask me why i had this domain stuck in there at the first place.. hmmph! it was few years back and Yahoo showed up when i first looked in to Google for a domain registrar. well there it goes and just like that it was down with no clue Yahoo could rectify, neither do i; at first i thought it was something to do with the payment but it is only due in two thousand ten, after several emails nothing was moving then i finally call them and it never appeared to be a very good solution, especially when i got on hold for nearly 20 mins in couple of times. [oh! boy].

it doesn't matter anymore, i've transffered to GoDaddy this week and now this is up and running!! [yipeeee!]

i just realised i've been too much carried away at work; i open my RSS reader yesterday, nearly got a headshot - 958 new items from 42 feeds. [oh dead god!] should i now plan a day off to get myself updated. good thing i have not lost a single article from 'apple pr' feed, had it on my browser feeds.. :P

ok now, i'm gonna go hit the bar, take my caffeine and nicotine shots - until then!

iPhone 2.0 slow backup process and so on

[backup process after 12 minutes]

after getting through a tough time with initial installations of 2.0 i've finally made my 12th restore, including 10 restore getting the 'number display fix' and this time is the final [until Apple releases the firmware update very soon].

as for the backup process which comes partly along with a normal sync but takes ages, nearly 15 mins and mostly the backup is corrupted and saved under file name 'unknown'. i've red through several forums and tech-talks on similar concerns. i have to agree that slow process is due to the heavy applications, i first had roughly 50 applications from Appstore, paid and free; out of this super monkey ball and aurora feint are extremely large applications for the cause. now that i have removed all this massive apps for time being which makes this pretty speedy [faster than old 1.1.4 to be precise], backup process is as fast as it was in older versions, though it might take a minute or two during the first backup process but afterwards its faster than light. besides this installing apps from appstore was god damn slow, but it 'was'; now i'm happily enjoying the 2.0 here. [looking for a way to get a 'us' iTunes account? don't be shy to drop a line here]

with these applications out of sight, [at least until an update from Apple] sms app is back to normal and using the keyboard is just as easy as it always has been.

we have been talking about the big change Apple brought up - Mobileme being the replacement for .mac, honestly it is a disaster now. although a lot of improvement is in place after the major crash last week. once again, i have access to my emails, finally!! [smile] - check out the status here

so until the new update, and until the release of Installer.app for iPhone 2.0 i'll just keep my mouth shut. for now cydia is keeping up pretty well with new repo's for the firmware, i'm glad!

iPhone 2.0 SMS number display fix

well, i upgraded mine to firmware 2.o couple of days back, with help from Pwnage tool 2.0, [i'm yet thankful to Dev team].

just like in fw 1.1.4, in 2.0 does not support Maldives number format in sms.app neither in contacts, which is horrible to identify some callers with '+960' saved in my contacts and receiving sms from contacts saved without '+960'. when i first try to ssh into iphone it terminates from ibrickr so as the iphonelist but after few try it worked perfect but i got a major headache as apple has completely restructured the entire frameworks, mostly file system as whole. [which certainly took few hours to identify the .plists i was looking for]

anyways, i don't wanna write about how many times i restored my phone and how many cigarettes i have smoked on this.. :P

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, i DO NOT provide this as a solution to who ever come across and read this post but for who is in need for this solution. by providing this guideline i'm not liable to whatsoever happen to your iPhone.

here's what you need now - go grab this zip archive which has 2 files i have modded here; extract to anywhere you like, you should have PhoneNumberTemplates.plist and UlPhoneFormats.plist.
now lets put the files in its place;

step 1ne: connect your activated, jailbroke, unlocked iphone to your Mac or PC and use a tool to ssh into file system, i used iPhoneList, download here. UPDATE: [iBrickr v0.91 works smoothly as well according to Lirar and Naadhu - Thanks guys!]

step 2wo: browse through to ~/System/Library/Frameworks/UlKit.Frameworks/PhoneFormats and delete the file UlPhoneFormats.plist.

step 3hree: now from the files you have downloaded, drag and drop the file UlPhoneFormats.plist into the same directory. [that's it for this file and now you will browse the directory to drop the other file you have downloaded, for that continue to step four]

step 4our: browse through to ~/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppSupport.Framework and delete the file PhoneNumberTemplates.plist

step 5ive: this where you drop the downloaded file PhoneNumberTemplate.plist into the same directory. after file is being copied, restart your iphone.
Viola!! now you should have it just like you had it in 1.1.4, no more trouble with number formats, with or without '+960' it still shows the saved contact name in SMS.app and in Contacts.

of all the iPhone apps i have used and fascinated about it, yet uShow didn't make to the Installer nor to the Appstore until today. rumor has it, uShow will be out in Installer for the 1st generation iPhones during mid May 2008, or at least the webpage was up with details and some cool screen caps and now it's just the page is up with no details. wonder where it disappeared, so the Summer is over soon. will i ever get to try this app to make some cool videos on iPhone?

Activate and Unlock iPhone 3G

just couple of days back the new version 1.0 of Swirly MMS is released with very creative improvements. after the several days hard work the new app is available for just us$8.00. although you get 14 days trial period to see if it goes the way you want, then go hit the buy button!

to download the app add http://swirlyspace.com/SwirlySpace.xml to your source in the Installer application and you are good to go. settings remain as i've instructed in an earlier post and if you want to try just go hit the 'get demo' before you start seeing the magic of sending messages. (or) just buy it straight away! ;) [oh you might need to try couple of times to get demo in case it fails on the first run.. ]

here are new features in this version;

when and what always has been an imperative question that never gets an answer [perhaps that’s how it meant to be]; it’s truly amazing how and why though. i have never looked for or got myself down searching [or] any sort of in that matter to find out if there’s an end to this obscurity. although i happen to hear – rather disturbing – “one day you will realise that the grass is always greener on the other side!” - oh yeah? how to get there or to see if it’s truly greener?? crap!!

all that can freak you out is how much you try and try until you lose hair and become a baldy, not? iPhone 3G - Activate and Jailbreak

ever since the new iPhone 3G and talking about the only mode of activation, I've been really worried if this baby will come my way anytime soon. I know for sure someone out there would do their magic and it'll be jailbroke and activated. but how? [i think i should stop asking that question to myself and just wait..] If we cannot activate from iTunes and the only possibility is to go physically to the stores then how is it gonna go with Pwnage? Winpwn? or the traditional Safari exploit to get through to place the Installer.app? or again this time will it be Nate True? Despite the fact i'm very convinced by Zibri that this won't be any short of an issue but it's again a maybe case. oh ooohh and the Bootloader?? we don't have any idea if there's any changes to bootloader in this baby. oh dear!

well now talking about the new iPhone 3G, it is with the new firmware 2.0 which is for the existing users as well, which definitely don't give me the option to upgrade my 1.1.4 until the firmware is cracked. but then again Appstore has invaded the entire 3rd party attraction and i'll definitely need a Appstore account to download the apps. ummm buy and dowload the apps to be precise. Next question is will the Installer.app could still squeeze in to give us the variety of free apps on the go?

with all this complicated questions flying around all i can say is i'll not buy the new 3G unless it is fully Jailbroke, Activated and Unlocked!

It just happen I couldn't locate my eBills, well it has been months Dhiraagu displays "Please note that there is a delay in updating mobile billing records. We are currently working on this issue and we apologise for any inconvenience caused due to this - Dhiraagu Customer Service." before the login. delay? It takes more than a week or more like until end of the month you cannot rely on whatsoever is up there. For pits sake when the hell is this ever gonna be reliable. Lack of employees? I don't care but they sure are getting on my nerves every bloody time.

Just for the record, it has been over a month I requested for a Broadband connection, never heard from them until today. oh horrors!! Customer Service!!!

alright!! What has really changed ever since i last got my finger around here? I suppose too many than i can write here. Well, i've been little bit carried away due to so many reasons, work and a pathetic life i had for a short period and dealing with that all my time. Anyways, at work i've gotta lot of deadlines to meet, almost running out of time. :P Yep, once again i can easily say i'm living happy again!

so i just thought i should start with what's new for me at this point; i got myself a sweet girl [nahula-ly sssweeeet :P], gotta new pack of blank DVDs, a new Desktop at work [to burn these DVDs :P], a very cute Swiss Lighter [really cute :>], 30 odd movies, a ticket to my brother's Bachelor party in Colombo [2nd week of May it is] and a Brightkite Beta invitation. Apart from the unfamiliar Brightkite everything else is more-or-less usual and i'm so very excited and looking forward to the Bachelor party, oh yeah! Hello Party!! [Oh boy!! i gotta renew the passport and ID, dammit!!]

yeah, Brightkite sounds not too familiar but soon it'll be, a very cool web 2.0 Location-based social networking service with posting pictures, notes of your choice and meeting lotta new people around you. unlike bigger cities on Google Maps - Maldives is just MV or Male' appearing to check-in though. Not sure if we are to appear on Maps any sooner, nevertheless in this speed of light changing things you never know!! :) It is yet in early Beta but invitations are just flying around, go grab it!

i think i have few invitations left, so don't be shy to ask. :P

iPhone 1.1.3 SMS Number Display Fix

I've upgraded to 1.1.3 couple of weeks back, ever since i've activated and unlock to the network i'm on (MV Dhimobile) I have been struggling with my SMS app. When I receive the text messages it shows the sender's number when I have that particular sender's number saved in my contacts. That gave me lotta headache to go through the contacts all the time to figure out who the sender is. damn!! Plus i had the same issue as most of the 1.1.3 users have faced, the order of messages are a mess. Apple has made some suggestion on to fix that here.

Anyways, after a several readings from the forums and so on I have fixed it with the help from iPhone Unlock Australia. So here's the same kind of instruction provided by IUA but I have uploaded the patch files w optimized "PhoneNumberTemplates.txt" for the use of users in Maldives. I have only tested with "MV Dhimobile and Wataniya" but this should normally work in other countries as well.

Please do as I say here.. (there is no risk by doing this, if you have doubts drop me an email)

# Download the patch files from here.
# You will need to SSH into the phone to drop and create files - Download
# Create a directory named "Support" in the /System/Library/Frameworks/AppSupport.framework/ directory on your iPhone.
# Copy the "AppSupport" and "AppSupport.original" files from the zip file to the /System/Library/Frameworks/AppSupport.framework/ directory on your iPhone.
# Copy the "PhoneNumber.dylib" and "PhoneNumberTemplates.txt" files from the zip file to the /System/Library/Frameworks/AppSupport.framework/Support/ directory on your iPhone.
# Reboot iPhone by switching off and powering on the phone. Now go to SMS app. and?? Please tell me it works :)
This works perfectly for me and a colleague of mine BUT do it at your own risk (As I have said even if this doesn't work for you, your phone won't be harmed) GOOD LUCK!!

You can send MMS on iPhone, who said you cannot?

I happen to have an iPhone and it has been months i'm using it [it is necessary i mentioned that]. I don't wanna be rude or anything like that but the TV show name 'Fahimagu' on local TV is spitting out wrong information on certain things like GPRS/EDGE and MMS in iPhone [with all due respect]. Well, i'm not going to givva detailed report on what they have blabbered about but certainly a step by step on setting up a third party app called SwirlyMMS for iPhone.

SwirlyMMS is developed by Mats Berggrund and Tommy Sevensson on the late December 2007. I'm currently running version 0.2.2 of this app, which was the update on the January 17, 2008. Until today this app is running smooth as silk and yet it is only possible to send MMS as receiving is not developed so far.

Anyways here's some information you will need to do the settings to be able to send MMS using your iPhone. Following details is based on my experience in this matter. Aand this is only when your carrier is Dhiraagu as i'm using that [duhhhh!]

Here you go!!

1. Install the SwirlyMMS using the Installer. [You need to have Community Sources added to your installer sources]
2. Run the SwirlyMMS and tap the Settings on the right-bottom corner. See the image below;

3. On the Settings page you will have to enter the following as in order;

MMSC and Proxy Server Settings
MMSC: mmsc.dhimobile.com.mv
Proxy: 172.24.97.4:8080 [i had a tough time to figure out this, thanks to 123] :P

MMS-specific APN Settings
APN: internet.dhimobile
Username: [leave this blank]
Password: [leave this blank too]

Image size: You have a 5 options but best recommended is Medium.

4. When you are done entering as above tap on Save located on your Left-top corner.

5. Now you are good to go to try sending your first MMS. Tap New MMS on right-top corner. Now you will see the page to enter a Title, To and File as in the below image.
6. Just give any title you want and tap the blue '+' to select the contact you want to send this MMS to and then finally the image [sound slips and so on are not yet possible to send] you want to send then tap the blue send button.

7. You can let me know if it works by posting a comment on this. :)
8. Make a Donation to the developers by going to Info located on the left-bottom corner when you open the application. [You can always skip this option though.. ;-)]

When you want to delete your sent MMS history, go to Settings like you did before and scroll down to see the enormous RED button - tap on it. :)

That's it for the SwirlyMMS. But one thing, GPRS/EDGE works perfectly from day one i started using iPhone, that was in September 2007. O_o

I was just thinking of certain circumstances or most likely a revolution that could change the world. [this is me not talking politics] For once I'm pointless; how could anything will ever change when the people are too busy making their 2 cents out of every known society. Every bloody organizations - exceptions are to be made - have a fantastic face set out on the - little not too less 'serial killer' - media. Poverty is right on top, people killing people is the new world order, apparently. Peace be upon the dead souls. I leave this up to your imagination and the limits to think of how far you could go.

Every where I look it's the same corrupted nations, nations full of shit loads of crap. Weapons, Fighter jets, Nuclear weapons and finally the people. How many are killed and how many have lost their families, For god's sake i'm talking about living souls - not the automated robots. let's say for an example can't Bush stop investing on those killer weapons and start to help out the poorer. Well then it's too late for him.

I'm only talking about the dreams that we all are living. Correct me if I'm wrong, who don't want the healthy food, who is not looking for a better shelters and who is not looking for better educations; of course we want it but how to get them seems a lot of trouble. Oooh the are born homeless is not their problem, not at all. And when I'm saying helping them out, instead of throwing your money on killing people that is. At least for once they deserve a life, life a lot less complicated, a lot less pain...

Days and nights were new and young as it turns out; yet it was that another sweet beginning I suppose or another meaning of human existence known to mankind. Moments I was loved and cuddled up by everyone around me - seniors and superiors of sort - are in the history; if it's the sweet memory, either some are struggling to erase them is not in doubt. Loads and loads of hypothetical dreams baibey!!

Well, that's how it will be, perhaps too much in detail would definitely create some wounds and if that ain't healing anymore I can't take that blame - got too many of 'em. They say all you can do is try and when nothing seems to be working - keep trying!! Oh yeah, so much for the invention of brainwashing tool - Optimistic! When you feel awful, especially when you feel like you are to be washed off from the face of earth in due course, nothing but massive disappointments hitting on your face and when losing becomes truly handy - "oh dear!! don't be so negative - try to take to be optimistic, you will see that coming someday." Someday?

Actually someday is more likely in your dreams, sleep really tight; you will be dancing along with the luck and the good faith. You will never feel the pain that has been a curse for all your life. Honestly speaking, is the Google going to invade every single firms around or it just their business strategies? Because everyday I read it ‘Google taking over this and that’. Well, if it ought to do any good for us – the public – then it’s just great! Let's look at Blogger as an example, they have improved this and made it blogging way too easier then it was before.

Today I came across the article in TechCrunch, it reads;
“The Motley Fool is running a story on a rumor that Google is considering a takeover offer for US Satellite Radio provider Sirius.

The merger between Sirius and XM has yet to be approved by Federal Regulators and hence Sirius would become a takeover target if the merger failed. Non-AT&T iPhones at Risk of Failure!

Apple warned on Monday that iPhone owners who have used unauthorized programs to unlock the cellular service feature of their handsets may end up with a phone that does not work after the company’s next software update.

Since the iPhone made its debut in June, hackers have posted a number of methods online to make it possible to use iPhones on cellular networks other than that of AT&T, the exclusive official carrier.

Apple executives say they have discovered that many of those unauthorized unlocking programs damage iPhone software. A software update that Apple plans to issue later this week that will add features such as accessibility to the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store may end up making the cellphone completely inoperable if it has been altered.

“This has nothing to do with proactively disabling a phone that is unlocked or hacked,” Philip W. Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president for worldwide product marketing, said in an interview. “It’s unfortunate that some of these programs have caused damage to the iPhone software, but Apple cannot be responsible” for those consequences.

As with any Apple product, hacking will void the warranty of an iPhone, Apple said.

Apple has sold over a million iPhones since the device hit the market June 29.

Google to go over Facebook in November

Yesterday a select group of fifteen or so industry luminaries attended a highly confidential meeting at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View to discuss the company’s upcoming plans to address the “Facebook issue.”

The meeting was so secret that all attendees had to sign confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements strictly forbidding them from discussing what was shown to them at the meeting. Notwithstanding that NDA, I’ve now spoken with three of the attendees off record to get an understanding of what Google is planning. Google’s goal - to fight Facebook by being even more open than the Facebook Platform. If Facebook is 98% open, Google wants to be 100%.

The short version: Google will announce a new set of APIs on November 5 that will allow developers to leverage Google’s social graph data. They’ll start with Orkut and iGoogle (Google’s personalized home page), and expand from there to include Gmail, Google Talk and other Google services over time.

On November 5 we’ll likely see third party iGoogle gadgets that leverage Orkut’s social graph information - the most basic implementation of what Google is planning. From there we may see a lot more - such as the ability to pull Orkut data outside of Google and into third party applications via the APIs. And Google is also considering allowing third parties to join the party at the other end of the platform - meaning other social networks (think Bebo, Friendster, Twitter, Digg and thousands of others) to give access to their user data to developers through those same APIs. Almost no other Internet radio could possibly beat - the Meemix is growing rapidly. It has increased number of users whilst on beta. It is useful to mention the number of other radio - like Pandora and Last.fm - must be losing a lot of their users already. Incase if you are looking for a place where you can listen to million of songs of your choice and making friends, try to get a beta invitation already.

As Meemix is still in beta, there are constantly fixing the technical bugs and making it easier for its users. Couple of days back it has fixed, rather made it less complicated to listen to various stations, make your comments and to broadcast to your friends in Meemix.

Wi-Fi threat to Gmail & Facebook
Security warning over wireless hack threat

Accessing Google's Gmail or the Facebook social-networking site over Wi-Fi could put your account at risk of being hijacked, according to research from security firm Errata Security.

It's not just those sites but any rich web applications that exchange account information with users, including blogging sites such as Blogspot or even software-as-a-service offerings such as Salesforce.com, that could pose a risk for users, wrote Errata's Robert Graham, CEO, and David Maynor, chief technology officer, in a paper.

Most websites use encryption when passwords are entered, but because of the expense, the rest of the information exchanged between a browser and a website is not encrypted, they wrote in a paper presented at the Black Hat 2007 security conference in Las Vegas this week.

Using a packet sniffer, which can pick up data transferred between a wireless router and a computer, it's possible to collect cookie information while a user is accessing one of those sites over Wi-Fi.

Cookies consist of bits of data sent to a browser by a website to remember certain information about users, such as when they last logged in. Included in the cookie can be a 'session identifier', which is another bit of unique information generated when people log into their accounts.

By collecting cookie information and the session identifier with the packer sniffer and importing it into another web browser, the hacker can get inside a person's account. The attacker may not, however, be able to change a person's password, since many Web 2.0 applications require a second log-in to change account information.

Nonetheless, it could allow a hacker to create blog postings, read email or do other malicious activity. Meanwhile, the victim is directed to a version of the web page they intended to visit, which Errata calls 'sidejacking'.

There is a remedy, however. "The consequence of this is that users should never use a Wi-Fi hotspot unless they are using VPN (virtual private networking) or SSL (secure sockets layer) to access their accounts," they wrote.

Oh horros! Good news for WordPress users...

Last month WordPress held a huge camp, named after their blogging service - WordCamp 2007 in San Fransisco. the idea behind this was to get WordPress users together, learn from each other, figure out the future of publishing on the web, and have a good time.

There was a lot of great news and discussions that came out of it, but one item that many Wordpress users out there will find interesting is that Wordpress will now be on a 4 month major release cycle. Version 2.3 should be out in September… 2.4 four months after that, definitely a great news for their users but not for me though. :P

In 2.3 it will finally have built-in support for tagging. It was also announced that the built-in tagging feature will be backwards compatible with “all major tagging plug-ins”.

So I guess all the WordPress users can just sit back and relax until this is finally out. I'm happy for you guys.

Not too long ago, while beginning work on some projects for a company, I was asked whether I wanted a PC or a Mac—laptop or desktop—to use while in the office. Since the place was essentially a Macintosh shop, I requested an iMac (with a second screen so I didn't look like a complete schlub).

Oh horrors. Dvorak is using a Mac.

Hey, I figured since I'm known for ragging on the Mac all the time, I may as well speak from some experience, right? It's been a couple of months now, so I thought I'd report what I think about the platform from a user's perspective—specifically, from a PC user's perspective.

So here's what I think.

First of all, the machine is not half bad. It's very quiet, and it performs as well as the PC on general office applications. Generally speaking, the interface is slicker than the PC's, and you get the sense that the computer isn't about to start acting weird because of some virus, spyware, or endless Firefox loading procedure going on in the background and killing all the cycles of the computer. (Despite my reinstalling Firefox half a dozen times on my PC and running deep spyware and virus checkers, Firefox will, all too often, chew up all my cycles and kill my PC's performance. I then have to kill it and start over. Anyway, this doesn't seem to happen with the Mac.)

Other than that, I cannot see much of a difference between the Mac and PC. It's a computer. It runs the same old applications (more or less), and it gets the job done, albeit somewhat more elegantly. The processes for some things, such as burning CDs, seem convoluted to me. I'm not a fan of some of the navigational concepts. And I have one USB key that the Mac refuses to recognize for some unknown reason. But these are not deal-breakers.

Now that I'm thinking about it, perhaps I should rethink my use of the word "elegant" when I describe the machine and the way it functions. See, most people use this word because they love the often-gimmicky stuff, such as the bouncing icons and sweep-away window minimizing. It's all very interesting but superfluous.

'Negative Thoughts' - New World Order!

I am rather astonished with the new world order – no harm pushing that phrase ahead of me, I guess – which completely persuaded most of our youths. “Have a problem with the family; go find some drugs (illegal ones) to pump in your veins. Get caught, we have enough space behind the bars” Yeah, this is where I’m giving my thoughts after the post ‘Life Sucks’. Don’t be shocked as I take this a bit into the past to articulate this. I have seen enough movies, TV shows of local and the rest where it came from too.

When I first saw the kind of TV show was the one from NSS (National Security Service of Maldives). Cannot recall the name of that one where the lead actor had to face the problems and arguments between his parents. Hooray!!! to the producer and the people behind the idea of making such a great (and harmful) episode of ‘what to do when you don’t get much attention from you parents’. Certainly I’m not blaming anyone but people who are to be blamed can realize it whether I say this or not, definitely!!! Our well proficient government is basically playing the middleman’s role in making such a vibe, in another word awareness of everything that we should stay away from. I’m not quite sure how many of us have the parents taking care of their children full time, Let me guess, one in a thousand or less? Of course, with the living expenses getting higher day by day someone got to do a job to earn that living. Do not blame your parents just because they don’t have a descent or a well paid job – they must work and they must take of their children, they choose to work to give a better life and a future to the breed in hand, at the same time the children choose get closer to the ‘drugs’ because the parents never get to spend much time with them, Bingo!

Back to the so called awareness by giving very detailed descriptions of how and where to find Cocaine, Hash, Marijuana and you name it, our own government is extremely relieved to help you providing – practical – trainings on the same and they certainly is doing a fantastic job there. So, if there is anyone who has problems with the family, they sure can start on drugs – new world order!! (A very well known Negative thought)

If you have read this article up to this point you must have got some idea of what you should do and should not do. “Life is too short to waste, don’t let it spoiled you as it is never too late to make the right move.”

World Environment Day it is...

From the day we were born we have never really bothered about the Environment much, instead we do everything to harm and spoil it. Not necessarily to destroy it but our existence has become an exposure to the environment. I’m not quite sure whether the Maldivian Air Taxi and Cab drivers are still on strike. But if they are at least it’s remarkable. They sure have chosen the right date. It’s good they don’t pump hideous gasoline to pollute the nature.

Look at Male’, the Capital of Maldives, is it like a tiny vehicle manufacturer? It is like the place for thousands of cars and bikes plus other vehicles running here and there. The place itself doesn’t have enough space for couple of well-sized soccer pitch, you can imagine the size now. Besides you are just nobody if you don’t have a motor bike or a four-wheeled creature which spoils the environment, especially to be fancy and to find a girl friend. That’s the truth! Look at the people who talks the environment, every bloody cabinet minister and their family don’t even step on the road without his or her driver. So god’s sake stop making big speeches about the environment when you don’t know how badly you are spoiling it. Oh! Maybe that will cause some to their reputation.

Every now and then there is the threaten of high tide, all of us are almost alerted these days. So the “Melting Ice – A hot topic?” isn’t hot enough, it is Too Hot and burning now. Will Maldives stand in some year’s time? I doubt and I have my reasons to believe that. Is government doing anything on this?

So let the environment be how it meant to be and meanwhile we all try our best to keep this place cool and calm. Whatever you do avoid Co2!!

'Negative Thoughts' - Life Sucks!

It has been quite sometime I didn’t write anything of my own, been pretty busy at work and out of work. Although as you have noticed I have been posting some (rather interesting) articles from Digg.com time to time. Hope you all enjoy reading them and ‘Diggin’ them. Since I have been writing a bit of everything I thought I should focus into ‘Negative thoughts’. You know different people look into different aspects in a completely different angle, which makes some drag into the ‘Negatives’. Isn’t it?

So today I’ll try to express my kind of thinking towards the phrases like ‘Life Sucks’ or ‘My Life is a Mess’ and in a very casual way ‘I’m always screwed’ and ‘I’m Fucked up’. Don’t you hear this from your colleagues, friends and so on? Literally everyday!! All these phrases give us a same significance, which describes the life he/she is living, and is absolutely not the one they dreamt several years back in times. Of course! It is never what you want or I want but it directs you to the destiny. Certainly the reason of living is connected to what you want as well but unto some extends it has limits. Have some faith into what you are doing; try to understand the combinations of the entire course, we all are bonded in somewhere of our lives. Is it not?

Take sometime off from your tight schedule, give it a moment in peace; then think about what went wrong and why it went wrong. I’m not quite sure you will figure that out and it doesn’t need to be rectified either. Because we make mistakes, pretty big ones, and due to that some of our happily expected episodes turns out to be rather a complete disaster. So, forget what has happened in the past and trust me you cannot go back in time (like in science fiction movies) to correct what was done wrong. But you can definitely look into it just not to recap the same again. ‘Go with the Flow’ is the best out of all the best concepts ever told/invented. You will never be disappointed. Have a bit of Hope and Faith; meanwhile try to avoid the phrases like ‘Life Sucks’ and so on. You all would do well!

More of my appearance towards ‘Negative Thoughts’ are just on its way. Until then, Cheerio!

Man described as a top spammer arrested!

SEATTLE (AP) -- A 27-year-old man described as one of the world's most prolific spammers was arrested Wednesday, and federal authorities said computer users across the Web could notice a decrease in the amount of junk e-mail.
Robert Alan Soloway is accused of using networks of compromised "zombie" computers to send out millions upon millions of spam e-mails.

"He's one of the top 10 spammers in the world," said Tim Cranton, a Microsoft Corp. lawyer who is senior director of the company's Worldwide Internet Safety Programs. "He's a huge problem for our customers. This is a very good day."
A federal grand jury last week returned a 35-count indictment against Soloway charging him with mail fraud, wire fraud, e-mail fraud, aggravated identity theft and money laundering.

Soloway pleaded not guilty Wednesday afternoon to all charges after a judge determined that - even with four bank accounts seized by the government - he was sufficiently well off to pay for his own lawyer.
He has been living in a ritzy apartment and drives an expensive Mercedes convertible, said prosecutor Kathryn Warma. Prosecutors are seeking to have him forfeit $773,000 they say he made from his business, Newport Internet Marketing Corp. Read more..

iPhone Data Plan

Today, much of the tech press is interested in speculating on the iPhone's data plan. Here's something new to add to the conversation.

Last week, when a Cingular business sales rep told me that the date for release was June 11th, she also told me that the data plan would be $30 bucks. I have less reason to believe the date, but the pricing seems like something she knew as a fact. $30. Such an exact number.

I told her that I thought it was a bit high, since the phone doesn't have 3G. She said that they had the best data network in the country, so the phone would download fast, so again, take this with a grain of salt. This is a sales person, not an engineer. Maybe it includes Wi-Fi. Maybe you can't just get the EDGE access. That would make me a bit upset if you couldn't split the two up.

Because I can stomach the monthly fee for minutes and txt, and I can stomach the iPhone's $599 price tag, but I'm not sure I want to pay another $30 for EDGE data plus Wi-Fi. That's maybe more than I can swallow.

This is all speculation, of course. <<

Let's wait until the 11th of June to be certain, instead of rumors.. cheerio!

EMI signs deal with Apple Inc. to sell songs online

LONDON (AP) - EMI Group PLC has announced a deal that will allow computer company Apple Inc. to sell the record company's songs online without copy protection software.

The agreement means that customers of Apple's iTunes store will soon be able to play downloaded songs by the Rolling Stones, Norah Jones, Coldplay and other top-selling artists without the copying restrictions once imposed by their label.

EMI said almost all of its catalogue, excluding music by the Beatles, is included in the deal.

Singles and albums free from copy-protection software and with a higher sound quality will be offered as a premium product, the companies announced at a London news conference.

Consumers will pay a higher price for the premium singles, but the same price for albums either with or without the copy protection software.

The announcement follows calls by Apple CEO Steve Jobs earlier this year for the world's four major record companies, including EMI, to start selling songs online without copy-protection software.

The software, known as DRM, is designed to combat piracy by preventing unauthorized copying, but can make downloading music difficult for consumers.

The software used by Apple does not work with competing services or devices, meaning that consumers can only download songs from iTunes to iPod music players. The linkages between the download services and players has drawn criticism from European industry regulators, who argue that it limits buyer choice.

Jobs argued there was little benefit to record companies selling more than 90 per cent of their music without DRM on compact discs, then selling the remaining percentage online with DRM.

Some analysts suggest that lifting the software restrictions could boost sales of online music, which currently account for around 10 per cent of global music sales.

EMI has acted as the distributor for the Beatles since the early 1960s, but the Beatles' music holding company, Apple Corps Ltd., has so far declined to allow the Fab Four's music on any standard Internet music services, including iTunes.

The situation was exacerbated by a long-running trademark dispute between Apple Inc. and Apple Corps. That legal feud was resolved in February when the two companies agreed on joint use of the apple logo and name, a deal many saw as paving the way for an agreement for online access to the band's songs.

National Design Award Winners Announced

The Cooper-Hewitt announced the winners for its eighth annual National Design Awards. After the jump a list (complete with beautiful examples of work) of who will be honored at the October 18th gala, along with an exhibit at the museum October 14 thru 20.

In addition to the winners decided by a small jury, the public will be able to pick their fave design in the People’s Design category. Starting September 10th, you and I will be able to nominate and vote for a design of our choice via Cooper-Hewitt's site. The winning design will be announced on October 18, at the National Design Awards gala in New York City.

Who would you like to see nominated (you know, other than Wired)? I personally think the designers behind the Wii need to be recognized for thinking outside the controller. See the Designs here

When Maria Montessori docked in New York on her first trip to America in 1913, crowds greeted her ship and her arrival made the front pages. Montessori, Italy's first woman doctor, was toasted as a revolutionary educator. By the end of her visit a few weeks later, "It seemed reasonable to suppose that American education would never be the same again," Rita Kramer writes in Maria Montessori: A Biography.

Instead, interest in Montessori's method withered in the United States. When she decided to leave Italy in 1934 because Mussolini's regime was interfering with her schools, Montessori decamped to Holland. While her reform movement had influence in Europe and Asia, Kramer writes how it "took on more and more of the character of a special cult rather than becoming part of the mainstream of educational theory and practice."

It took the free spirit of the 1960s to revive Montessori education in the United States. Montessori herself had died a decade earlier, but her emphasis on children's "absorbent minds" and their capacity to teach themselves aligned with the era's rebellion against school's traditional strictures. Montessori classrooms, with their silver candlesticks (for polishing), beautiful toylike cubes, and child-size shelves and bins, seemed like the perfect romantic alternative to boring workbooks and rows of desks. iPhone, a theft-proof phone?

Based on a study carried out by British Transport Police (BTP), mobile phone theft accounts for around 45% of the thefts on the London Underground, I guess that was one of the reasons BBC had carried out an article: What to do if you've had your mobile phone stolen? Based on a patent revealed by AppleInsider, Apple might be coming out with a theft-proof iPhone in the near future which should reduce some of the worries of owning an expensive mobile phone for all those traveling the London underground.

As per Apple in many cases the theft of a device brings certain movement cues that aren't present for accidental behavior, such as rapid sustained movement. Most unintentional bumps and drops are easy to recognize as sudden stops. Here's more...

So Microsoft has some major problems with "prior art" and "obviousness" defenses. Second, the creators of GNU and Linux were inspired by Unix, not Windows, and Unix is much older than Windows. Again, prior art and obviousness defenses. Third, Microsoft once actually sold Unix licenses, called Xenix (which they licensed from SCO), but Microsoft later abandoned Xenix in favor of Windows NT, which would indicate (to me, at least) that the ideas for Microsoft's Windows-related patents are probably quite different technology from Xenix. Fourth, our beloved friend SCO actually owned Xenix, and you know that if they could have asserted patent claims against GNU Linux they would have done so. Maybe SCO never patented Xenix. Apple iPhone receives FCC Approval

Apple Inc. on Thursday received the official go-ahead on its first ever mobile handset, as regulators for the Federal Communications Commission gave the iPod maker the green light to commence sales of the device in the United States.

According to FCC documents obtained by AppleInsider, the "GSM Cellular Telephone with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi" carries model number A1203 and FCC ID: BCGA1203.

In an SAR Test Report conducted on February 6th, 2007, FCC Test Lab Manager Lothar Schmidt wrote the following:

"The Apple Inc. A1203 GSM Cellular Telephone with Bluetooth and Wifi, FCC ID: BCGA1203, is in compliance with the limits for general population uncontrolled exposure specified in FCC 2.1093. The device was tested according to the measurement standards and procedures specified in FCC OET Bulletin 65, Supplement C (Edition 01-01) and IEEE p1528/D1.2, April 21, 2003."

Per Apple's request, the test report omitted the following for "short term" confidentiality reasons: Test Setup Photos, External Photographs, Internal Photographs, and the iPhone User Manual.

Permanent confidentiality omissions included the iPhone's Block Diagram, Operational Description, Radio Schematic, Radio Bill of Material, Radio Tune-up Procedure, and Exhibit notes. Read more...

Abnormal High Tide in Islands of Maldives

A terrible couple of days in Maldives, lot of islands, well mostly flooded due to the unexpected climate changed with pressured waves. In another word it is the tidal waves which get worse during the high tide. According to the experts in weather this is an abnormal condition even with high tide with extremely high water current.

Most of the islands in Maldives are in great danger and are alerted from last Monday. However, there are no major damages like we had 3 years back – the tsunami. Ever since people are more aware of these disasters, though there isn’t much they can do about it yet they take necessary measures to avoid life lose plus protecting their shelter.

In my point of view, every one of us and our families are located in remote islands. Sparing the fact and possibility it is highly likely that we will have serious problems in the coming years. In my eyes there were days we had high tides, well really extremely abnormal ones but we haven’t had this much of terror involved. When we look at last couple of years the situation has got worse, I doubt the islands will stand or not. Obviously this ain't a huge natural disaster like a tsunami - no harm for the locals and tourists. I leave it to the good hand of Nature of creations!! Impassioned outrage from Brandon Reese, a representative of the AFL-CIO, was echoed by representatives of the Teamsters and Con Hitchcock, an attorney with Amalgamated Bank. According to the bank's website, Amalgamated is "the only fully union-owned U.S. bank still in operation," and "remains firmly committed to its role as partner to the labor movement."

An article in the San Francisco Chronicle written by Ellen Lee characterized the union speakers as representative of Apple's shareholders, but two proposals they advanced by the speakers were not supported by shareholders' votes.
